This weekend sees the first head to head between the teams who were the closest rivals for last season's Premier League title. Tottenham Hotspur host Leicester City at White Hart Lane, but this season their fortunes have been rather different.
Spurs are currently one point off the top, albeit in fifth place in the table. They are nine games unbeaten, making this their best ever start to a Premier League season. They're still some way short of their title winning season in the old First Division, though. In 1961-2 they managed a whopping sixteen games before losing, and if they can replicate that this season they may well be positioned to confirm the title challenging form they've shown thus far.
They've been the bridesmaid for the last couple of years now, coming close to the top but never quite making it to the pinnacle. This season has shown their young team maturing, and may well be the moment they finally deliver on all their promise. Given Leicester's poor away form this season we think they will likely have the edge here, and the best place to back them is at BetFred, who are offering a decent 4/6.
It's hard to gauge Leicester this season. They have put in some great performances, but they've also barely shown up for other games. Their Champions League form is every bit as good as the title-winning Leicester of last year, and it's hard not to believe that manager Claudio Ranieri must be prioritising that over trying to defend their title.
That said, Leicester remain a potent force even compared to the biggest teams in the league, and they could still have a big part to play in the Premiership this season. The best place to back them is at 11/2 at BoyleSports.
When all is said and done though, we think this will be Tottenham's victory after a bit of a fight. The best place to back Tottenham to Win and Both Teams to Score is at Coral, who have it priced at a reasonable 12/5.
