World Cup Qualifiers - Slovenia vs England

All the press so far ahead of England's next match has revolved around Wayne Rooney and whether the England captain will feature. Interim manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Rooney will not start the game, but after the way he was treated by the fans last time out is dropping him to the bench necessarily the right answer?

It's hard to say, and indeed there may not even be a right answer. Many of Rooney's teammates were shocked at the level of abuse hurled at him in the match against Malta, during which he played in a deep midfield role. Rooney remains an extremely capable player, but with the fans so much against him and his morale undoubtedly affected as a result we can't imagine he's going to want to put himself through this for much longer.

Nonetheless, England's victory over Malta means they still have a 100% record in the World Cup qualifying rounds, and they're looking to maintain that record in Slovenia on Tuesday. It should be a game England can comfortably win, no matter who starts as captain out on the pitch, and the best place to back the victory is at Ladbrokes, who are offering a market leading 7/10.

The game against Malta showed some worrying issues in the England attack. Despite dominating the match in every regard, England only scored twice against a team determined to go in and limit the damage. If Slovenia take a similar approach we could have an interesting game on our hands, as the Slovenians are better footballers than Malta are.

We don't think Slovenia are likely to win, but an unexpected draw could well be on the cards, and the best place to back that is at 888Sport, whose price of 14/5 is the best we've been able to find.

Ultimately, though, this should be another game that sees England take three points without too much trouble. The best place to back England to Win to Nil is at Coral, who are offering a decent 11/8.

World Cup Qualifiers - Germany vs Northern Ireland

Life isn't fair for Northern Ireland. Not quite three months after they had to face Germany in their Group Stage matches at Euro 2016 they find themselves facing them again in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

In Euro 2016 they defended brilliantly but ultimately lost 1-0. Despite that, Northern Ireland made it out of the group stages, going out in the Round of Sixteen to Wales. Germany, of course, made it to the semi finals of the tournament before being beaten by the hosts, France, and Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill is sure that this is going to affect the match on Tuesday.

He believes, and we're sure the Germans agree, that Germany were the best team in the competition and they will regret the way they went out. Everything now will be about gaining revenge, taking the maximum points possible in their qualifying campaign, and going all out to retain their World Title when they reach the finals in 2018. Standing in their path this week might be more than Northern Ireland can really cope with, and the best place to back a German victory is at ToteSports, who are offering a fairly typical 1/7.

We're not convinced that Northern Ireland have much chance to win this one, but given their sterling performance the last time these teams faced one another, and the fact that they have experience at trying to stymie the German attack, we're willing to entertain the possibility that they might scrape an entirely deserved but very surprising draw.

The best place to back that is at PaddyPower, whose price of 15/2 is narrowly the best we've found on the market.

Ultimately, though, this looks very likely to be Germany's day. The best place to back Germany to Win to Nil is at Coral, offering 6/10 - a price at least slightly more tempting than the odds on a German victory alone.
