2016-17 Premier League - Saturday Roundup

We've looked at some of the headline games in other posts but there's still plenty of potential value elsewhere in the Premier League this weekend.

Bournemouth vs Hull is another of those vital games which doesn't seem like much right now but could turn out to have been absolutely crucial come the end of the season. Both sides are currently in the bottom half, and at this early stage it's still unclear who will manage to pull away to the midtable and who will be mired in the relegation battle come the season's end.

Bournemouth look to be on the best run of form, but manager Eddie Howe has said that a number of player returned from international duty with "serious" injuries. Hull manager Mike Phelan has only recently been confirmed in the job, but winning manager of the month for August while still a caretaker showed what he is capable of. We think Hull might edge this, and the best place to back them is at BetFred, at a very decent 4/1.

Stoke City vs Sunderland is a bottom of the table clash which might also be vital at the end of the year. Sunderland have been league strugglers for a while, but the presence of Stoke propping up the table for so much of the year already has come as a big surprise. Over the last few years the Potters, under the guidance of Mark Hughes, have improved to become a solid upper mid table team, and we can't see them lingering at the bottom for much longer.

The best place to back Stoke to win is at Ladbrokes, who are offering Evens.

Finally, if you want to back a longer odds potential upset you could do worse than look at West Bromwich Albion, who host Spurs this weekend. Spurs are the last unbeaten side in the Premier League after their victory over Man City last time out, but readjusting their game to cope with a very different style of football is a tricky task and the Baggies are on a rare run of form which has included scoring four goals at home for the first time in two years.

Spurs are still the likeliest winners, but if you fancy an upset you can back the Baggies at a tempting 9/2 over at 888Sport.

2016-17 Premier League - Man City vs Everton

Man City host Everton this weekend in a top of the table clash that will surprise Everton fans after the last couple of seasons. They've had a tough time since David Moyes moved on, but their season so far sees them sitting pretty in fifth and averaging two points a game.

The return of Leighton Baines after missing two matches with a hamstring injury will certainly be a boost to the Toffees as they visit the league leaders, but there's plenty in their season so far to suggest they can bring something to this game. City may have the edge on paper, but Ronald Koeman will have learned plenty from how Spurs beat City last time round, and furthermore he will want to get the edge on his former protogee Pep Guardiola. This is, surprisingly, the first time the two have met as opposing coaches, and among other things Koeman will have the slight advantage of having far fewer players away for international duty around the globe last week.

The best place to back Everton to win is at PaddyPower, at a very tempting 6/1.

Man City are a formidable foe, though, even if their players have spent the last ten days globetrotting like the superstars they mostly are. A home game plays into their hands too, and although Spurs ended their eleven game unbeaten streak since the start of the season it would certainly be a surprise if City lost again so soon after that.

The best place to back City for the win is at SkyBet, who are offering a reasonable 8/15.

All in all though, this could be a surprisingly balances game. It's hard to see which side might have the edge overall - City are always capable of destroying their opponents if they are in the right mood, but equally they are capable of being very mediocre for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Our feeling is that this could end up being a low key draw, and the best place to back this finishing at 1-1 is at Coral, whose price of 15/2 looks very good to us.
