Wimbledon is definitely my favourite tennis tournament on
the calendar. Those with any interest in tennis will understand when I say
there is just something about it. For two weeks it captivates the UK and
abroad. Everyone goes into tennis mode!

As for the tournament itself the Men’s singles will be
revolving around the usual suspects:

Nadal, Federer, Murray and Djokovic, with Roddick always a
threat on the fast surface of SW19.

Past results look like this:

2003

 SUI

Roger
Federer

 AUS

Mark Philippoussis

7–6(7–5),
6–2, 7–6(7–3)

2004

 SUI

Roger
Federer

 USA

Andy
Roddick

4–6,
7–5, 7–6(7–3), 6–4

2005

SUI

Roger
Federer

 USA

Andy
Roddick

6–2,
7–6(7–2), 6–4

2006

 SUI

Roger
Federer

 ESP

Rafael
Nadal

6–0,
7–6(7–5), 6–7(2–7), 6–3

2007

 SUI

Roger
Federer

 ESP

Rafael
Nadal

7–6(9–7),
4–6, 7–6(7–3), 2–6, 6–2

2008

 ESP

Rafael
Nada

 SUI

Roger
Federer

6–4,
6–4, 6–7(5–7), 6–7(8–10),9–7

2009

 SUI

Roger
Federer

 USA

Andy
Roddick

5–7,
7–6(8–6),7–6(7–5),3–6,16–14

2010

 ESP

Rafael
Nadal

 CZE

Tomáš Berdych

6–3,
7–5, 6–4

The previous results show, it has been the scene of Roger
Federer’s greatest moments in his tennis career. Andy Roddick has been so close
on many occasions, none more so than his heartbreaking defeat in 2009. Rafa
Nadal began to replace Roddick as Federer’s chief rival at the tournament in
2006, and the defending champ bagged two titles in following years.  British eyes as always will be on Andy
Murray, will this be the year they finally get their home winner of the
tournament? Maybe it is Novak Djokovic’s year to finally shine in the sun of
SW19, up to now he has not fulfilled his promise at Wimbledon.

Women’s Singles

The Williams sisters stamped their authority on tennis in
England from 2000 onwards. The sisters absolutely dominated tennis at Wimbledon,
only allowing Mauresmo and Sharapova to pinch titles in between their awesome
reign.

Previous champions were:

2000 Miss V Williams USA

2001 Miss V Williams USA

2002 Miss S Williams USA

2003 Miss S Williams USA

2004 Miss M Sharapova RUS

2005 Miss V Williams USA

2006 Miss A Mauresmo FRA

2007 Miss V Williams USA

2008 Miss V Williams USA

2009 Miss S Williams USA

2010 Miss S Williams USA

This year promises to be a little more tightly
contested however. Clijsters and Wozniacki are just two of the many women who
will fancy their chances of defeating the Williams’ and lifting the coveted
title.

It may seem a long way off now, but before long those strawberries and cream will be out and the mighty tournament will be upon us.

With Wimbledon beginning today I have finalised my main fancies. In the men's for me the value is Djokovic.

4/1 about a player who is playing the best tennis of his career is too big to miss out on! Until Federer (9/4) beat him in France, he had not lost a match this season, and the clay is a very different surface. If they meet in the semi final, Djokovic will give The Fed express plenty to worry about.

Obviously Nadal (9/4) and Murray (6/1) will be fancied by many but I don't think Murray would beat Djokovic and if he meets Nadal it will be in the final and our 4/1 will be looking tasty.

In the women's singles - it may be uninspiring, but Serena Williams (9/2) looks a huge price. She always reserves her best for SW19 and you can be sure she has been aiming at it for the last few months.

The ladies game is lacking a sort of strength in depth/ dominant figure at the moment and that is why I think Serena can step back in.

There have to be doubts obviously, she is getting older and probably not getting any better but these worries are reflected in the price of 9/2 which I feel is too juicy to pass up!!
