TOPIC: Bulls Excited for Villa Clash

Bulls Excited for Villa Clash 19 Aug 2011 12:40 #1

Hereford United boss, Jamie Pitman, says that his side's upcoming Carling Cup match against Aston Villa has given the the Bulls "something to look forward to". The 35-year-old's comments come just a few days after Hereford's chairman, David Keyte, referred to the draw as "the perfect [match] for Hereford, at this stage".

French striker, Yoann Arquin, scored for Hereford in the team's first round match against Brentford, earlier Carling Cup betting this month, to secure a passport to the next round for the Edgar Street-based club, and hand Brentford their seventh first round failure in the Carling Cup in almost as many seasons. Arquin scored in the 92nd minute of the match, in what will have been the worst possible end to the fixture for fans of the Bees. Those following the Carling Cup betting would have been impressed by the perseverance shown by Hereford though.

Whether Hereford genuinely believe that they can best Aston Villa, next week, or are simply relishing the opportunity to play a team two divisions above them in the league, is debatable. Although Villa aren't the kind of side to feature in the Champions League betting, they will still be a tough test.

However, Pitman believes that the fixture will be a "game to go and enjoy". The former Swindon and Yeovil midfielder, again, echoing words uttered by Keyte, has noted that Birmingham is local to Hereford, meaning that the amount of time spent on coaches and trains will be kept to a minimum.

Despite all the excitement surrounding the game, Pitman is keen to "detach" the match from Hereford's league campaign. "[The league] is our bread and butter", the coach explained, in his column on the Hereford Times website. However, the Bulls have not made the best start to the 2011/12 season. The side have lost all three of their opening games, conceding an embarrassing eight goals.
