Justin Rose could be one to watch at Augusta

The Masters get underway on Thursday evening and as ever, we are in for a thrilling four days of action at Augusta.

It always takes a special performance to come out on top here and Justin Rose is looking to win his first ever major title.

The Englishman will feel as though he comes here in great shape as he has is currently ranked as the third best player in the world, which is a career high.

In his press conference before the tournament, Rose seemed relaxed and said that he was ready to challenge current favourite for the Masters, Tiger Woods.

The 32-year-old is relishing all the attention on him and believes that being world number-three gives him the confidence to break his major duck this week.

Also, there isn’t quite so much pressure on him as a lot of focus is going to be on the battle between Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, so Rose will feel as though he can go about his business quietly in the first couple of days.

It is of course going to take the best performance of his career to be presented with a green jacket, but with the way Rose is playing and the age he is at, this is the perfect time for him to mount a serious challenge in the Masters.

His record in the Masters hasn’t been great as the best he could manage was a fifth place finish back in 2007.

When looking at a betting bonus or two for the South Africa-born golfer, he is available at 18/1 with Stan James to win the tournament, which could be excellent value.

A good start is always key as it can give you the confidence to go on and win the competition and you can back Rose at 16/1 with Betfred to be leading the way after day one.

The Masters - McIlroy and Woods to go toe-to-toe?

Golf’s first major tournament of the year, the US Masters, gets underway on Thursday evening and many eyes are going to be on the battle between the two men ranked as the best in the world right now – Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

When it comes to titles won, there is no comparison between these two as Woods has a lot more trophies in his cabinet than McIlroy, but if both play their best golf, we could see an epic battle here.

Unsurprisingly, the American is the current favourite with the bookmakers to come out top and you can back him claiming his fifth title at Augusta at 4/1 with Betfred.

Woods has been the best player in the world this year and we are seeing signs of him returning to his best form.

A win at the Masters would show everyone that he is still the best around and in truth, this might be the tournament he wants to win the most.

With the knowhow he has at Augusta and the fact that he comes here in fine form, those looking at the latest betting offers might find it hard to look past Tiger Woods being presented with a green jacket on Sunday night.

As for McIlroy, he will be the first to admit he hasn’t been good enough this season and he really does have to raise his game this week.

He did finish second in a tournament in Texas last week and that could be a good sign for the Northern Irishman as at times, he looked to be playing some of his best golf.

If McIlroy can perform throughout the four days, then he is sure to push Woods all the way. A win for the world number-two is at 12/1 with Coral.

Three-time winner Phil Mickelson also has odds of 12/1.

A player can of course come from nowhere and win this title, but you never know, we could see Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy go head to head in a fascinating battle.
