Ryder Cup 2012 - Who can be the best wildcard pick?

The Ryder Cup is just over a week away and all the excitement is starting to build for what should be an incredible weekend of golf in Illinois.

Both Captains have now picked their wildcards for the tournament -José Maria Olazábal selected two for Europe, whilst Davis Love III have made as many as four selections.

The wildcards picks are usually vital to success for either team. They have been chosen by the captain as someone that can make a difference and challenge the players that have been automatically selected.

As mentioned, the Davis Love III has picked four players and they are Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker. José Maria Olazábal has then chosen Ian Poulter and Nicolas Colsaerts.

At the moment it is Stricker who is being tipped as the favourite to be the top of these picks with odds of 3/1 with Stan James.

Stricker has experience in the Ryder Cup and has of course won a major tournament in the past, so could be vital for this American side.

Dustin Johnson is then at 7/2 and is another player with plenty of experience of performing on the biggest stage.

As for a betting offer that sees a European man being the top wildcard pick – then it looks as though it could be down to Ian Poulter, who can be backed at 4/1 with Paddy Power.

Everyone knows just how competitive Poulter is and being picked in the Ryder Cup will be a massive honour for him and he is sure to want to repay his captains trust in him.

Jim Furyk is then at 9/2, with Brandt Snedeker at 6/1.

Other European Nicolas Colsaerts makes up the list with odds of 9/1.

It looks to be a great tournament and this is just another little battle to keep an eye on.

Ryder Cup 2012 - The battle between McIlroy and Woods

The Ryder Cup takes place later this month and is certainly one of the most eagerly anticipated tournaments in Golf that sees the world’s best players all in action.

The man of the moment seems to be Rory McIlroy as he secured this third victory in four over the weekend and looks to be in quite incredible form.

All of the European team will be hoping that he can continue this for the Ryder Cup in Illinois. The Northern-Irishman is the current world number one and on his day, can be unstoppable.

Looking at a betting bonus for McIlroy being Europe’s top player during the tournament, it can be backed at 11/2 with Stan James.

Of course Europe will need all of their players to be in good form if they are to retain their trophy, but if McIlroy can continue the kind of golf he is playing at the moment, then he will really set a standard for the entire competition.

Looking at someone who can challenge McIlroy from the American team, there is only one man – Tiger Woods.

Few can argue that on his day, Woods is still the best around and if these two men go up against each other and are playing the kind of golf they have over recent weeks, it would be a quite incredible match up.

The former world number one will also be looking to set the standard for the American team as they look to regain the famous trophy on home soil.

Woods is currently being offered at 5/1 with Bet365 to be his team’s main man and it looks as though if he is not on top of his game, then America may really struggle.

This looks to be one of the best battles for some time and it could come down to which golfer can hold their nerve when the pressure is on them.
