Saturday Racing - Newmarket

We've looked at the 15:50 in another post, but we're just as interested in the rest of the racing at Newmarket this Saturday. We've gone through the card to pick out some bets that we think you might find tempting.

My Target is current favourite in the 14:05, and is a horse well worth backing for the win. Our eye was drawn further down the listings, though, to Take A Note. He hasn't won since he took a hat trick over 7f in the summer of 2014, but despite his patchy form this season he really impressed when staying on to fourth despite significant trouble last time out.

His form overall has seen him drop quite dramatically in the weights since his heyday, but with performances like that still in him and that weight advantage to boot we think he's worth a look each way here. The best place to back him is at BoyleSports, at a very tempting 11/1.

The 15:15 sees a pair of unexposed Godolphin horses going up against one another and the rest of the field, and it's hard to say who we think you should back. Wave Reviews has come along nicely and probably has more to give, but it's always tempting to go with a Godolphin horse, even when their ability is hard to gauge.

Of the two G K Chesterton is currently by far the favourite, with odds as low as Evens in some places. With little to choose between the two to our eyes, though, we're leaning towards Huge Future as the one to back, at the slightly longer odds of 3/1 available at SkyBet.

Finally, in the 16:25 it's hard to choose between the three front runners as to who we'd put our money on. Bahamian Dollar, Excellent George, and Ice Age all have their qualities, but of the three we think Ice Age is probably our preferred candidate.

With a long run of high placed finishes and what may well have been a win had he gotten a clear run last time out, he looks like a sound choice off just 2lb higher, and the best place to back him is at BetFred, at a very decent 5/1.

Newmarket Cesarewitch Trial Stakes

There's a big field for the 15:50 Cesarewitch Trial Stakes at Newmarket this Saturday, and with so many horses lining up to run the 2m 2f race it's hard to know where to put your money. We've had a look over the runners and riders to select our pick of the pack.

Much like the bookies, we have to lean towards current favourite Oceane. He was unlucky at Goodwood, but went some way towards making up for that by winning a strong race at York last time out. The 5lb rise since that victory will have a part to play here, but our feeling is that he still has further to progress.

There are no doubts over his stamina, and good reasons to believe he is still improving. The best place to back him is at Ladbrokes, at decent 9/2.

There are still challengers in the field, though, and foremost among them has to be The Cashel Man. He has raced against Oceane a few times, most recently when he finished third in that race at York, and although he has struggled to find his form this season when he's had a good run he's always been there at the front.

With the 4lb difference to his rival now this might be his chance to regain some ground, and going in blinkers for the first time rather than cheekpieces may be the difference he needs to focus on his running. The best place to back him is at ToteSport, at a very interesting 10/1.

Finally, if you fancy a longer odds each way bet, Planetoid has been knocking on the door for a little while now. Although he hasn't yet won anything above Class 4, his most recent two races have been good solid runs, and he shouldn't have any trouble with this distance either.

He might find some of the horses here are just a fraction more classy than he can manage, but with good recent form we're pretty sure he has the potential to pull out a run that will surprise a few of them. The best place to back him is at Coral, at a very tempting 14/1.
