Ridge Ranger returns for the 15:25 World Trophy Stakes at Newbury on Saturday afternoon, and she'll be showing up with the intention of going one better than her second place in the same contest last year.
The ground looks likely to be soft, and we're pretty sure she'll deal with that fairly comfortably given her record. She's also shown good improvement over the last few races. Since her narrow defeat here last year she's won a Group 3 at York over 6f, and shown very well despite some lowlier finishing places since then.
She's probably the main threat here, and the best place to back her is at StanJames, offering a market leading 7/2.
Possibly her closest challenger will be Cotai Glory, who races under George Baker, the jockey with whom he has had the most success. He's only won one of his last thirteen starts, and depending on further rain he may not find the ground quite to his liking, but the two have made a solid pairing in the past and a repeat of the form that saw him come home second in the King's Stand would make Cotai the horse to back in this one.
The best place to pick him up is at BetFred, at a very decent 5/1.
If you fancy some longer odds then you could do worse than look at Alpha Delphini. He's the half brother of the Abbaye winner Tangerine Trees, and has shown very strongly over 5f this year on good ground. The soft course here will ask questions of him, and we don't know yet if he will take it in his stride, but with his form and potential we think he's the longer odds runner who's worth a punt.
The best odds we've found on him are at Coral, who are offering a tempting 6/1.
