Lewis Hamilton has been on the podium in the opening two races of the 2012 season and this has led to many formula 1 betting pundits assessing what he can achieve this year.
At the moment he is second in the standings and this suggests that perhaps he is going to be a major contender this year. He seems more focused and there is no doubting his driving ability.
Looking at his betting odds to win the world title, he is currently available with Bet365 at 2/1. Most bookies actually have him as the favourite to concede.
Hamilton knows he needs to keep improving though, saying he and his McLaren team need more consistent pace if they are to have a successful year.
Speaking after the Malaysian Grand Prix, he said: "We're still competitive but, in the race, I have to go and look at the pace of the other people. We need to improve our race pace, I think our race pace could be better."
"The car has been good all weekend and the team has done a great job and I'm on the podium again, which is my target, to have consistency."
Next up in the 2012 season is the Chinese Grand Prix in a couple of weeks time, of which Hamilton is the 5/2 favourite with BetVictor. His team-mate Jenson Button is then 3/1 with Boylesports to get his second win of the year.
As for McLaren as a whole, they are currently the 4/9 favourites with Paddy Power for the Constructors Championship, followed by Red Bull at 2/1 and Ferrari at 25/1.
Ferrari were boosted by Fernando Alonso's victory in Malaysia of course, but it is unlikely they will be able to maintain a title challenge. Alonso himself admitted afterwards that they still had lots of work to do.
Overall, the F1 betting markets are shaping up quite nicely!
